I was watching GOAL on UTV Movies movie which features – John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Boman Irani, Arshad Warsi, etc. Believe me the movie was really good! But she (Bipasha Basu) was using the word “A**H**E” like anything, come on man you can’t be using such words, UTV Movies didn’t even censored those words. Say those words in Hindi and believe me 98% of the girls would turn you down saying that “you are so cheap!” But say that in English and “oh.. he’s so bold!“.. and blah blah blah! Abuse on the stupid box! and they say TV doesn’t make an impact!

Similar to this remember Om Shanti Om (OSO), yup Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster movie, I would call it more of a hype rather than a true story! It was more of hype and Shah Rukh saying “What a fish!” Hey man there are people sitting in front of the TV/Movie Hall! Who are here to see a “Family Movie”. Even if they even didn’t knew the word, thanks to you – Thanks to Shah Rukh Khan – “What the Khan!“.

I mean there is so much of clutter on the television these days, it so just gets worse & worse every passing day. Take for instance an article published in Hindustan Times, asking psychologists about the kind of cases coming to them regarding children .. I was shocked to read that!

What would you do if your son/daughter starts abusing YOU! or start using abusive words inside the house.

Don’t just trust this, just look at what MTV is doing to the kids! Yes I would specifically blame MTV for starting up with their shows like – Splitsvilla! and Roadies! Everyone knows (even the your next door kid who 1/4th the height of your fathers height) that you would hear more of beeps than words.

And when your school goes to his/her school there has to be discussion on roadies in the school, like what the hell he was saying? and some smart-A** would spill the abusive words out! The verdict – someday your kid will know more than you do!!

Kids don’t understand that MTV is just a business house, its not a reality promoter or Discovery Channel that would show them the hard realities of life! They are offering a serial, that is lucrative promotes dating-mating, sex, bitchiness, violence and all that shouldn’t be! Show them something worth watching!

(I’m watching it now!) NDTV Documentary on Independence day on the life style of people.. A lady went to watch a bhojpuri movie, and said -

“if my husband would earn that much amount of income the hero was earning me & my family would be living much comfortably..”

Now! you get it! The amount of destruction television is spreading out there? If you still didn’t let me point to another article (I’m sorry I don’t have the clipping for that – Hindustan Times), where an old freedom fighter was commenting on the television, he said -

“The problem with your generation is that you don’t have real heroes!”

And I think that is it! We see imaginary things, and we are trying to incorporate those imaginary values & imaginary culture into our daily lives. And the kind of values & cultural shift a serial like Splitsvilla is producing is devastating! I mean Okay! its cool, but it isn’t as cool as like make up, do the night stuff & break up & move on the next morning!

That isn’t life is!!! It’s the western culture, India as what I remember as a kid, and what I hope to be as a human being – is much sober, respects each other’s feeling. Kids as young as 11 are into making girl friends, doing break ups and what not! They are into psycho break-ups that were about 5 years ago happened to a person of age 26-28. If such things continue I don’t think it will be too late to see the future of India (these kids) falling into the endless tunnel of darkness where they would find drugs and crime!

Why this is happening?

• Kids are stuck to Television/Internet!
• They don’t get parks to play!
  • Parents are too worried to send them to play
• They are not into good company
  • Probably their friends are more into television
• Parents don’t keep watch over their kids
  • Busy bees – stinging their own kids!

Now the question how to stop all this? The measure to get your kids free..

• The biggest measure against this is to revolt against serials like Splitsvilla/Roadies
  • If you want the kind of serials, make it a bit CLEAN!
  • Or at least provide them with a Rating that children below a certain age shouldn’t watch
    • This is dependent on Parents strictness with which they deal with their kids
    • and the govt. & the strict rules that should be as strict as sending children to Jail!
  • I personally feel that they should be BANNED!
• Let them go for some Real Play!!!
• Make sure they don’t watch channels promoting bad views
• Study – I know it sounds boring, but there are alternatives .. Discovery / History / NGC Channel
• Try! to check they are watching the right kind of channels – Disney / Pogo are good ones – The dubbing is much cleaner
• Help them learn about the social & cultural heritage of India, its very rich and they would learn something that we are making them forget!
• Serials like – Mahabharata, Chanakaya , Malgudi Days, etc are available on CD’s /DVD’s
• Try! to LOCK the Channels on your set-top box and block Porno websites on your PC!

I think if you love/care for your kid, you’ll do anything to know him, where he is, what is he doing.. and if you love your country, the cultural heritage you would take a step to stop all this nuisance.
